About The Role
The Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) at OpenAI plays a pivotal role in shaping organizational growth and performance. This individual contributor position reports to an HRBP Lead and serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and their teams across various functions. The role involves strategic partnership, organizational design, talent management, and leadership development to foster high-performing, resilient teams. The Senior HRBP collaborates closely with cross-functional partners, including Centers of Excellence (COEs), to enhance employee experience, drive change initiatives, and support sustainable growth. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on execution, with a focus on creating scalable, impactful HR solutions aligned with OpenAI’s innovative culture and mission. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong judgment, empathy, and agility to navigate a fast-paced, high-growth environment, ensuring that people strategies effectively support organizational priorities.
Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of HR experience, including at least 5 years as an HR Business Partner in high-growth or complex organizations
- Proven expertise in organizational design, talent management, and leadership development
- Strong strategic partnering skills with the ability to guide senior leaders through complex trade-offs
- Exceptional coaching skills with a track record of developing leadership capabilities
- Experience in change management, process improvement, and implementing scalable HR programs
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and integrity in handling sensitive information
- Ability to diagnose challenges, test creative solutions, and adapt quickly to shifting priorities
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices in a fast-paced, innovative environment
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
Responsibilities
- Partner with senior leaders to design organizational structures, talent strategies, and ways of working that promote performance and growth
- Collaborate with HRBPs, COEs, and cross-functional teams to enhance the employee experience rooted in humanity, humility, and impact
- Strengthen performance management, engagement, and retention programs by building scalable, aligned solutions
- Provide candid, actionable feedback and coaching to managers to build leadership capabilities across teams
- Proactively identify organizational challenges, diagnose root causes, and deliver innovative, lasting solutions
- Lead organizational change initiatives with empathy, clarity, and rigor, especially in ambiguous or transitional periods
- Support managers and teams through complex situations, fostering a culture of trust and continuous improvement
- Maintain close alignment with business priorities, anticipating needs and adapting HR strategies accordingly
- Drive initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring they are integrated into broader HR practices
