The Employee Relations Supervisor & Investigations is responsible for leading and managing employee relations functions with a primary focus on conducting and overseeing workplace investigations and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. This role coordinates employee relations programs across branch locations, ensuring consistent interpretation and application of corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and business objectives.
This position provides expert employee relations support to leaders and employees across all locations, including reviewing termination actions prior to implementation to assess accuracy, consistency, and potential legal risk. The Employee Relations Supervisor oversees and develops Employee Relations Specialists, ensuring high-quality execution of employee relations activities and adherence to best practices. The role also evaluates corporately defined HR processes and provides recommendations to improve effectiveness, consistency, and compliance.
As a primary investigative resource, the Employee Relations Supervisor conducts objective, thorough, and timely internal investigations into alleged violations of company policy. This includes gathering and analyzing information, documenting findings, identifying trends, and recommending appropriate corrective actions. The role regularly communicates employee relations trends, risks, and emerging issues to management to support proactive decision-making and risk mitigation.
The Employee Relations Supervisor delivers training and guidance on corporate policies, procedures, and employee relations best practices. This includes providing on-site instruction, one-on-one coaching, and targeted training sessions at the request of executive leadership. The position serves as an active member of the Corporate Human Resources team, contributing to the development, review, and implementation of employee relations policies and programs.
The incumbent independently researches and resolves complex employee relations matters, exercising sound judgment and discretion while recommending appropriate courses of action to leadership. Collaboration with Legal, Finance, and IT teams is required to ensure compliance, technical accuracy, and alignment with regulatory and corporate standards. Final approval of policy or procedural changes is managed by senior HR leadership.
This role requires extensive use of HR systems and technology, including PeopleSoft HRMS, PS Query, Bullhorn, and Microsoft Office applications such as Access, Excel, and Word. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate employee relations documentation, preparing reports, and ensuring records are managed in accordance with legal and corporate requirements. The Employee Relations Supervisor also provides backup support to the HR team and performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant employee relations and investigations exposure, preferably in a multi-state, multi-location environment. A professional HR certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) is preferred. Certification as a Workplace Investigator is strongly preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work independently in high-pressure and sensitive situations while maintaining strict confidentiality. Strong collaboration, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a deep understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws.
