Description

About HIFI

HIFI is a financial technology company working on how money is represented in software. We build developer tools that allow value to be programmed—with rules, behavior, and logic embedded directly at the asset level. Developers already use our platform and API's to move billions of dollars in production environments around the world. But we view this as the beginning rather than the end.

Founded in 2022, our organization is flat and our team is talent dense. We are in person at our office in Manhattan and are intentional about who we work with.

About the Team

The HIFI Engineering team is responsible for shaping how programmable money is experienced. We sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and infrastructure, designing systems that developers and financial institutions rely on to move real value at global scale.

Our work spans API-first surfaces, internal tooling, dashboards, workflows, and primitives that make complex financial systems understandable, composable, and trustworthy. We collaborate closely with engineering to design directly at the system level — thinking in flows, states, permissions, and failure modes - not just screens.

Design at HIFI is deeply embedded in product development. We work in-person with engineering, product, and leadership to define new abstractions, simplify complexity, and set the standard for how modern financial infrastructure should feel to use.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Product Designer who is excited to design foundational financial products - not just interfaces, but the underlying mental models developers and operators use to move money.

You’ll work across core platform surfaces, workflows, and new product initiatives, partnering closely with engineering and product to take ideas from first principles through execution. This role requires comfort with ambiguity, systems thinking, and a strong bias toward clarity and usability in complex domains. The work is highly iterative, detail-oriented, and deeply tied to real customer use cases.

This role is based in-person in our Manhattan office and reports directly into Engineering leadership, with high ownership and visibility across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end product experiences across HIFI’s core platform, including dashboards, workflows, configuration surfaces, and internal tools that power global money movement.
  • Partner closely with engineering and product to define system behavior, user flows, states, permissions, and edge cases — designing at the level of primitives, not just screens.
  • Translate complex financial and technical concepts (APIs, settlement flows, compliance constraints, failure modes) into clear, intuitive, and usable product experiences.
  • Lead design from early exploration and first principles through high-fidelity execution, iteration, and launch.
  • Create and maintain design artifacts including flows, wireframes, interaction models, and component specifications that can be directly implemented by engineering.
  • Contribute to and evolve HIFI’s design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and speed across the product as the platform grows.
  • Work directly with real customers — developers, operators, and partners — to understand workflows, validate assumptions, and refine product decisions based on feedback and usage.
  • Collaborate in-person with cross-functional teams to move quickly, unblock decisions, and raise the quality bar across the product.

You might be a good fit if

  • You enjoy designing complex systems and making them feel simple, coherent, and predictable to users.
  • You’ve worked on technical, API-driven, or infrastructure products and are comfortable collaborating closely with engineers on how things actually work.
  • You think in flows, states, edge cases, and failure modes — not just screens and layouts.
  • You’re energized by ambiguity and early-stage problems, and prefer ownership over rigid process.
  • You care deeply about clarity, usability, and correctness, especially in products where mistakes have real consequences.
  • You’re comfortable getting close to customers — watching how they use products in production and incorporating feedback quickly.
  • You value craft, but you’re pragmatic: you know when to go deep and when to ship.
  • You want to work in person with a small, high-talent team building foundational financial infrastructure.
