Summary:
This position oversees the College’s two weight room facilities and is responsible for designing and conducting strength and conditioning programs for Wooster’s 23 varsity sports. This position also supports the facility and event operations team with oversight and management of game / event administration throughout the year. Additional responsibilities may be assigned in areas such as committee work and administration. This is a twelve (12) month position that includes morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.
Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities
- Fitness & Strength Center Operations – Oversees daily operations, programming, scheduling, and general use of Williams Fitness Center and Swigart Strength Center, including establishing policies, procedures, and facility schedules.
- Strength & Conditioning Leadership – Collaborates with coaches and sports medicine to design, implement, and assess strength and conditioning programs; leads team, small group, and individual training sessions; and provides education for all facility users.
- Staff Supervision & Development – Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates student workers and assigned strength staff, including managing payroll approvals.
- Equipment & Inventory Management – Identifies equipment needs, collaborates on purchases, supports budgeting, and manages a comprehensive equipment inventory system, including annual audits.
- Game & Event Operations – Serves on the Game Operations Team to support event setup, administration, breakdown, risk management, security, and enforcement of facility policies in collaboration with the Facilities Manager.
- Campus & Department Collaboration – Builds collaborative relationships across campus, participates in departmental and College committees and initiatives, and supports nearly 2,000 undergraduate students through visible, engaged presence.
- Compliance & Leadership Expectations – Ensures adherence to College, Athletics, NCAC, and NCAA policies; promotes diversity, teamwork, and inclusion; and fulfills other duties as assigned by Athletics leadership
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.
- Strength and Conditioning Certification through an accredited program required (NSCA or CSCAA mandatory; USAW optional).
- Maintain all CEUs and stay current with trends and research.

- Valid driver’s license
- CPR, First Aid, and AED skills (certification required; may be completed after hire)
Knowledge:
- Understanding of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing varsity athletics
- Knowledge of current trends, research, and continuing education requirements in strength and conditioning
- Former experience working in a fitness center (preferred)
- Previous experience in collegiate facility and/or event operations (preferred)
