Description

Performs professional level duties to assist library patrons and maintain library collection of materials.

  • Answer questions from library patrons; assist in locating materials; and instruct patrons in the effective use of library equipment and resources;
  • Assist paraprofessional and clerical staff in circulation as needed;
  • Select, order and maintain records of money spent for materials;
  • Review current literature of library and publishing companies to keep abreast of available materials, programs, and library procedures;
  • Plan and conduct programs for children and adults;
  • May supervise library support staff;
  • Participates in ongoing professional development to keep abreast of new trends and developments;
  • Must work some evenings and weekends as a regular part of a rotating schedule.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements Completion of a master degree in library science, or ability to complete degree requirements within six months, or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Valid Current Driver's License

Knowledge Of

  • Principles and practices of library science;
  • Computer applications related to library functions.
  • Dewey Decimal System, OCLC,

Ability To

  • Effectively provide customer service to library patrons;
  • Evaluate library materials;
  • Develop and implement library programs;
  • Operate computer and software;
  • Display flexibility when new types of materials or methodology or software become available;

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Frequently walk and stand during a shift;
  • Occasionally kneel;
  • Frequently push and pull objects;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
  • Reach above, at or below shoulder height;
  • Frequently handle objects;
  • Frequently crouch or stoop.
