The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Recreation Specialist - Athletics to lead and plan athletic program for the Parks and Recreation department. From planning and organizing athletic leagues, to managing contracts, this position is responsible for all aspects of league logistics. The full-time Recreation Specialist - Athletics earns a competitive salary of $21.83 to $23.63 hourly, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. Essential Functions

  • Designs, organizes, schedules, and evaluates athletic programs; meets the needs and interest of youth and adult target market and ensure delivery in a safe and quality manner.
  • Develops and implements programs and activities.
  • Organizes and implements a variety of recreation center, outdoor recreation, and community outreach programs and activities.
  • Assists in coordinating event site logistics including traffic maps, work orders, and layouts; provides assistance to ensure that event facilities are effectively supervised and staffed.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates athletic leagues and camps.
  • Research new athletic programs and activities.
  • Works with Communications to create press releases, flyers, and other marketing materials.
  • Identifies, prepares, and justifies annual budget requests.
  • Attends all meetings and provides accurate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports to supervisor as needed.
  • Creates and maintains working relationships with local business, vendors, and other organizations throughout the year.

Additional Duties

  • Ensures safety of participants during programs and leagues by inspecting site before/during and maintaining active CPR/First Aid/AED certifications.
  • Ensures that staff and contract instructors and participants know and follow safety and educational procedures during programs, classes and general facility use.
  • Oversees the program's progression to determine the status of program.
  • Monitors facilities, parks and all equipment periodically to ensure all parts are accounted for and in working order.
  • Creates marketing tools to ensures members are aware of activities
  • Recruits, hires and evaluates contract instructors and league officials and determines schedules and fees.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Requires an associate degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in recreation or closely related field.
  • Requires one year recreation management or closely related experience.

Special Certifications And Licenses

  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Current certification First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtains within two (2) months of hire date.
