About The Role
The CDC Foundation is seeking a skilled Business Analyst to support the development and implementation of technical projects aimed at enhancing the use of public health data for informed decision-making. This position is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program designed to bolster public health agencies by providing them with advanced technology and data expertise to accelerate their information system improvements. The Business Analyst will be embedded within the South Dakota Department of Health’s Epidemiology, Surveillance, and Informatics Center (ESIC), working remotely within the United States. The role involves collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams, including technical developers, subject matter experts, and end-users, to gather and document requirements, ensure clear communication across teams, and facilitate the successful planning and deployment of public health data systems. The position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to impactful public health initiatives while working in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field required.
- Advanced degree such as an MBA or similar preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a business analyst, project manager, or implementation manager.
- Proven experience in writing Use Cases and documenting requirements.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, principles, and processes.
- Experience with change management and risk management frameworks.
- Proficiency in data analysis and decision-making based on data insights.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
- Strong understanding of technical concepts, legacy systems, and user experience design principles.
- Exceptional communication skills to articulate complex problems and solutions effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working remotely with virtual teams and partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Responsibilities
- Lead or participate in requirements gathering sessions, including Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions, collaborating with project managers, developers, vendors, and subject matter experts.
- Define, document, and validate business requirements and use cases to ensure clarity and alignment with project goals.
- Coordinate with technical teams and vendors to meet project timelines and deliverables.
- Facilitate business and functional requirement review sessions, obtaining necessary approvals and sign-offs.
- Document existing business practices and workflows, identifying opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
- Support the development and implementation of process improvements, ensuring they deliver value and meet user needs.
- Prioritize project initiatives based on business impact and urgency.
- Communicate insights, project plans, and updates effectively to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ensure that technical solutions align with business requirements and user expectations.
- Monitor service level agreements and project performance metrics to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Assist in change management activities to facilitate smooth adoption of new systems and processes.
