ROLE:
Director, Facility Operations
DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Facility Operations for the new basketball facility is responsible for setting and executing the strategic operating model for NBPA’s premier basketball training facility. This role provides executive oversight of all facility systems and services, including building infrastructure, life safety, security logistics, cleaning, and specialized athletic operations. The Director serves as the primary point of accountability for vendor strategy, operational readiness, and risk management, ensuring the new basketball facility operates as a safe, high-performance environment that supports players, staff, programming, and events. This position leads long-term facility planning, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with NBPA’s operational and organizational priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Own and execute the facility operations strategy for the new basketball facility in alignment with enterprise standards and direction set by the AVP, Operations.
- Provide strategic oversight and serve as the primary contact for player workout scheduling, individual training sessions, and team practice calendars to ensure optimal facility utilization and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Partner closely with NBPA Security to establish and enforce secure access protocols, ensuring safe, efficient entry and clearance for players, teams, guests, and approved visitors.
- Establish and uphold white-glove service standards for player arrivals, ensuring all operational details and amenities (hydration, equipment, recovery resources, and court readiness) are proactively planned and executed.
- Oversee on-court and weight-room support operations, ensuring staff are equipped to meet player needs during workouts and training sessions.
- Serve as the senior point of accountability for all external vendors and service partners supporting the new basketball facility, including maintenance, cleaning, security, food and beverage, and specialized sports facility providers
- Establish and govern vendor strategy and service models for the new basketball facility, including selection, contract negotiations, performance management, compliance, and cost optimization
- Develop, standardize, and enforce facility operating policies, SOPs, and governance frameworks that ensure safety, consistency, and operational excellence for a high-performance training environment
- Implement Monday.com reporting that provide leadership with visibility into facility health, risk management, maintenance planning, safety inspections, and vendor performance at the new basketball facility.
- Serve as the primary escalation authority for facility-related risks, emergencies, and after-hours incidents for the basketball facility escalating enterprise-level issues to the AVP, Operations as appropriate.
- In partnership with the AVP, Operations, lead short- and long-term planning for the new basketball facility, including preventive maintenance strategy, capital improvement planning, vendor contract strategy, and sustainability initiatives aligned with NBPA’s enterprise operational and strategic priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS
:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in facility operations, building management, or infrastructure oversight, preferably within sports, training, hospitality, or high-performance environments
- Demonstrated experience overseeing complex facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety systems, and specialized athletic or performance infrastructure
- Proven leadership in vendor strategy, including contract negotiation, performance management, compliance oversight, and cost optimization
- Strong experience developing and enforcing facility SOPs, safety protocols, and governance frameworks
- Ability to lead both strategic planning and operational execution, including capital planning, preventative maintenance forecasting, and sustainability initiatives
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively with leadership, vendors, and cross-functional teams
- Strong decision-making skills with experience serving as the final escalation point for facility issues, emergencies, and after-hours needs
- High attention to detail with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and a strong commitment to operational excellence and safety.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Slack, and Monday.com, with the ability to leverage these tools for effective communication, project tracking, and cross-functional collaboration.
