This position is responsible for the management and administration of the Department’s Office of Training and Recruitment and the Green Oaks Training and Professional Development Center, which includes a 180-bed dormitory and a gun range. This position is responsible for the direction and oversight of all new employee and in-service training, recruitment and hiring of all new Corrections Officers, and the overall recruitment for positions in the Department. The position also serves as the Executive Secretary to the Michigan Correctional Officers Training Council, and the Department’s representative on various other training councils and committees. The position directs and supervises the Training Division Support, In-Service, New Employee, Recruitment and Ordnance Sections.

Required Education And Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience Two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience.
Alternate Education And Experience Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement supervisory experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Additional Requirements And Information KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of human resources hiring processes.
Knowledge in the development and delivery of training curriculum.
Ability to supervise, evaluate, and motivate employees.
Thorough knowledge of Department policies, procedures, and practices.
New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training. **Employment in the state classified service demands a high degree of loyalty and imposes high ethical standards on employees to ensure the integrity of state government and maintain effective services. All employees must meet these ethical standards and all appointing authorities are obligated to enforce these ethical standards.
