Job Title: Planning Manager – E-commerce
Job Overview
We are seeking a Planning Manager to lead planning and forecasting for the company’s E-Commerce business. This role will partner closely with the VP of Operations, Merchandising, and cross-functional teams to drive strategic seasonal and in-season planning, inventory optimization, and financial performance. The Planning Manager will own key planning processes, mentor junior planners, and provide data-driven insights to support growth, profitability, and inventory efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Own seasonal and in-season planning for the E-commerce channel, ensuring alignment with merchandising, financial, and growth strategies.
- Partner with the VP of Operations and Merchandising leadership to develop and execute strategic seasonal buys that achieve sales, margin, and inventory targets.
- Translate merchandising and assortment strategies into detailed financial and unit plans, down to the SKU/UPC level.
- Oversee purchase order creation, inventory flow, and inbound delivery tracking to ensure on-time and accurate execution.
- Lead in-season performance analysis, monitoring sales, demand, sell-through, and inventory health; identify risks and opportunities.
- Develop and recommend markdown, promotional, and reforecast strategies to maximize sell-through and margin.
- Analyze margin performance by SKU, factoring in returns, fulfillment costs, marketing spend, and other profitability drivers.
- Lead demand forecasting and replenishment strategies across channels, improving inventory turns and availability.
- Own annual and quarterly budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes for the channel.
- Create and present clear performance recaps, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Support and mentor junior planning team members, establishing best practices, tools, and workflows.
- Drive continuous improvement of planning tools, reporting, and processes.
Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of experience in merchandise planning, demand planning, or financial planning within retail or E-commerce.
- Proven experience leading or owning planning processes, with increasing scope and responsibility.
- Strong background in retail math, forecasting, inventory management, and financial analysis.
- Experience in footwear, apparel, or consumer products preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with planning systems and BI tools a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable making recommendations in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines while maintaining a strategic, big-picture perspective.
