Description: Accounting Manager Position Overview The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the accounting department functions with a focus on ensuring timely and accurate financial information. This position will report to the Executive Director, Controller.

Responsibilities As the team’s Accounting Manager, you will be involved in a range of initiatives that will support our Accounting and Finance department. Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of our financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing any necessary journal entries for approval by the Controller.
  • Perform and ensure completeness and accuracy of periodic account reconciliations across all key areas and entities, including cash, receivable invoicing & collections, accounts payable, property, prepaid expenses, and accrued liabilities, to maintain integrity of financial records.
  • Review and catalog sponsorship and other revenue contracts; issue invoices to partners in accordance with contractual terms, and proactively follow-up with partners regarding invoice status and payment. Collaborate with Corporate Partnerships department to monitor and resolve any aged receivables.
  • Responsible for initiating recurring and ad hoc electronic payments (ACH, bank wire, etc.) required for our business needs and in accordance with established controls.
  • Prepare and submit additional reporting to the NBA related to game ticket sales and various other financial matters communicated to the league throughout the season.
  • Review game settlements with the United Center and NOW Arena and record game by game revenue for our ticketed events.
  • Prepare and coordinate all reporting to taxing authorities, including amusement taxes and other taxes applicable to the operations of the team, ensuring compliance with all filing and payment requirements.
  • Assist with multiple financial statement audits (GAAP and NBA), coordinating across multiple external audit firms, and being the first point of contact with the auditors.
  • Facilitate a culture of continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (advanced degree or certification, such as CPA, is a plus but not required).
  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting-related experience, ideally combining Big 4 public accounting and private industry roles. Background in middle-market growing businesses preferred, with exposure to consumer, entertainment, hospitality and/or media sectors; experience in sports industry is a plus.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment; Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Proven ability to analyze a high volume of data and financial information, identify trends and opportunities, and effectively communicate interpretations and recommendations.
  • Technologically-savvy, with strong Microsoft Office skills; experience with NetSuite general ledger/ERP is a significant plus.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Compensation & Benefits The base salary range for this role is $90,000 – $110,000 annually + annual discretionary bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

The Chicago Bulls offer workplace flexibility. Full-time remote work is not an option for this role and interested applicants should be currently located in or prepared to move to the Chicagoland area. This role will require a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
